GI Effects® Comprehensive Profile

  • Digestion & Absorption – These markers assess how well the digestive system breaks down and absorbs nutrients. Pancreatic Elastase 1 reflects pancreatic enzyme function, essential for digesting proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Products of protein breakdown indicate how effectively proteins are being digested. Fecal fat, long-chain fatty acids, triglycerides, phospholipids, and cholesterol measure fat digestion and absorption, showing whether the body is properly breaking down and absorbing dietary fats. Together, these tests provide a clear picture of digestive efficiency and nutrient absorption in the gut.
  • Inflammation & Immunology – Calprotectin indicates neutrophil-driven inflammation in the intestines, which can signal conditions like inflammatory bowel disease. Eosinophil Protein X (EPX) reflects inflammation related to eosinophils, often linked to allergic or immune responses in the gut. Faecal secretory IgA when raised generally indicates that the gut’s immune system is activated. This can happen in response to acute infections in the intestines and inflammation caused by conditions like inflammatory bowel disease or food sensitivities
  • Metabolic Efficiency – These markers measure how well the gut bacteria are working and producing important compounds called short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), including acetate, propionate, and n-butyrate. SCFAs help nourish the cells lining the colon, support a healthy gut barrier, and reduce inflammation. The balance and amount of each SCFA show how effectively the gut microbes are functioning. Beta-glucuronidase, an enzyme made by some gut bacteria, can affect how the body processes hormones and toxins. Together, these tests give a picture of the gut microbiome’s health and how it supports digestion, metabolism, and immunity.
  • Gastrointestinal Microbiome – Commensal bacteria are the friendly or “normal” bacteria that naturally live in the human body, particularly in the gut, without causing harm. They provide a range of important benefits, including helping to digest food and break down complex carbohydrates, producing vitamins, supporting the immune system by preventing harmful bacteria from taking hold, and maintaining the health of the gut barrier to reduce inflammation and infection.
  • Bacteriology & Mycology Culture & Sensitivity – Unlike simply describing commensal bacteria or the gastrointestinal microbiome, bacteriology and mycology cultures actually grow the bacteria and fungi from a gut sample in the laboratory. This process confirms that the organisms are alive and active, allows the lab to identify species based on their growth characteristics, and tests how they respond to antibiotics or antifungal treatments.
  • Parasitology – parasitology evaluates the presence of intestinal parasites in the stool using both microscopic examination and qPCR testing. This includes Roundworm, Tapeworm, Flukes & Protozoa
  • Faecal Occult Blood – Faecal occult blood is blood in the stool that is not visible to the naked eye. It can be a sign of bleeding anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract, from the stomach to the rectum. Causes can range from minor issues, like small tears (haemorrhoids

IgG Food Antibodies (87 IgG foods + Total IgE)

This blood test looks for IgG antibodies – a type of immune reaction – to a wide range of common foods. It tests over 90 individual foods and food proteins, including:

  • Dairy (milk, yogurt, cheese, casein)
  • Grains (wheat, gluten, corn, rice, oats)
  • Vegetables (broccoli, carrots, spinach, onions, garlic, etc.)
  • Fruits (apple, banana, pineapple, citrus, etc.)
  • Nuts and seeds (almonds, peanuts, sesame, sunflower seeds, etc.)
  • Meats & poultry (beef, chicken, pork, turkey, lamb)
  • Fish & shellfish (salmon, tuna, shrimp, crab, etc.)
  • Beverages & misc foods (coffee, chocolate, tea, sugar, yeast, eggs, soy)

The test shows whether your immune system is reacting to these foods and ranks the reaction as low, moderate, or high, which can help guide diet adjustments to reduce symptoms like bloating, fatigue, headaches, or digestive discomfort.

IgE Food Profile (19 IgE foods + Total IgE)

This blood test is similar to the IgG Food Antibody Test, but it focuses on specific IgE reactions to the main food allergens. While the IgG test looks for delayed sensitivities to a wide range of foods, the IgE test identifies immediate allergic reactions that can cause symptoms like hives, swelling, or digestive distress.

IgG Vegetarian (21 IgG foods + Total IgE)

The IgG Vegetarian Food Antibody Test is a simple blood test that looks for delayed immune reactions to a wide range of foods commonly eaten in vegetarian diets. It measures your body’s response to foods like beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, grains, fruits, and vegetables, and shows whether your immune system may be reacting to them. The results indicate which foods might be linked to symptoms such as bloating, fatigue, headaches, or digestive discomfort, helping you make informed choices about your diet.

IgE Inhalants (25 IgE inhalants + Total IgE)

This blood test identifies immediate allergic reactions to airborne allergens such as pollen from trees & grasses, mould, dust mites, and pet dander. It measures your body’s IgE antibody levels to these substances, which are responsible for symptoms like sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, or asthma. The results indicate the strength of your reaction to each allergen, helping to pinpoint triggers and guide effective treatment strategies.

IgE Moulds (15 IgE molds + Total IgE)

This blood test identifies immediate allergic reactions to common airborne moulds. It measures your body’s IgE antibody levels to specific mold species, which can trigger symptoms like sneezing, coughing, nasal congestion, or asthma. The results indicate the strength of your reaction to each mold, helping to pinpoint environmental triggers and guide effective treatment strategies.

IgG Spices (24 IgG spices + Total IgE)

This blood test detects delayed immune reactions to a variety of common spices. It measures your body’s IgG antibody levels to spices such as black pepper, cumin, ginger, vanilla, fennel, cinnamon and many more – helping to identify potential sensitivities. The results indicate which spices might be linked to symptoms like bloating, fatigue, headaches, or digestive discomfort, allowing for more targeted dietary adjustments.

Metabolomix+

The Metabolomix+ is a unique combination of nutritional tests that provides an analysis of key nutritional biomarkers. A first morning void (FMV) urine collection, with optional add-on bloodspot finger stick and buccal swab, the Metabolomix+ nutritional test is a non-invasive, patient-friendly way to assess the functional need for antioxidants, B-vitamins, minerals, digestive support, fatty acids, and amino acids.

Insights gained from the Metabolomix+ nutritional test allows clinicians to target nutritional therapies to address underlying insufficiencies and promote health and longevity.

Melatonin Profile

Melatonin is a hormone primarily produced by the pineal gland and plays a role in circadian rhythms and sleep-wake cycles. Production is stimulated by darkness which promotes sleep. The highest secretion of melatonin happens between 2-4 am. Light exposure decreases melatonin production. Melatonin has many roles including free radical scavenging and stimulating antioxidant enzymes
